We're Bringing You "In the Purple"
In a polarized America, we are two young academics who have found that all issues our society must face have two distinct perspectives: the "Red" and the "Blue". These colors represent to us far more than just a section of the country or political affiliation: we take these two positions to represent a fundamental ideology based on philosophy and social thought. As two thinkers who have studied a combination of economic, communications, political science, philosophy and law in college; we find through years of passionate debate that both of us are able to fairly and earnestly provide and articulate these viewpoints through our discussions on issues that are important in all aspects of society today. The Red encompasses the "right" part of the spectrum. We define it loosely, and as best we can as everything that defines the classical conservative and traditional viewpoint of society and government. Great philosophers such as Hume, Hobbs and Burke are at the crux of our Red's reference for providing their side in our debates. The Blue represents the "left" side of this spectrum. Equally defined as the proponent of modernism and classic liberal ideology. Locke, Rousseau and Bentham are philosophers that align more with the Blue's academic repertoire when presenting an argument here. The concepts of economy, government and society are explored through the viewpoint of both the Republican vs. Democratic, classical vs. modern, and traditional vs. progressive. The Red and the Blue come here together to debate issues that touch fundamental questions in politics and society such as: the purpose and role of government, social majorities and minorities, the nature of man and rights of citizens, the effects of modernism, individualism, and the nature of capitalism. It is through our debates we believe we have both found something essential to say to our fellow citizens, and being Americans, about our country. Now we present these debates to lead you all, hopefully, somewhere new in your thought process...somewhere both sides of the argument have been considered...somewhere "In the Purple." We welcome you to propose topics on which we debate in our blog, comment (as long as it's thought out and respectful) on each side and hope we can try to bring some of the ideology we have both studied and applied in our life to every issue we debate.
Without further ado...
